Experimental work for the Multiples project
Polystyrene print with printing ink. 21.5x7.5 cm. Within the topic of multiples I looked at plant cells and bacteria under a microscope, as I liked the different shapes and sizes so I decided to do some prints using diverse colours which I would then develop further.
Experimental work for the Multiples project
Polystyrene print with ink which has been drawn into. 21.5x7.5 cm. These are prints from the same Polystyrene plate in black and purple, I experimented further by drawing onto one of the prints using primary source images to develop the idea and also use a range of media. Angie Lewin inspired me to draw onto the prints as her work involves line and colour.
Mono print of bacteria
Black printing ink. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This is a black mono print of some bacteria from under a microscope, I used a pencil and pressed down to create dark lines and pressed lightly to create a lighter line which added tone and shading to the piece.
Mono print of bacteria
Black printing ink. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This is another black mono print which was inspired by my secondary research into plant cells and bacteria. I liked the different shapes and colours involved with bacteria which is what inspired me to make it my main focus of the project, this is a black and white version to keep it simple.
Drawing into a print
A photocopied print drawn into. 21.5x7.5 cm. I photocopied one of my favourite prints and using pen added shading to it to make the shapes stand out more and give a more 3D effect using two different types of media together.
Observational drawing
Pencil. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This is a simple line drawing of natural and man made objects.
Observational drawing
Pencil. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This another observational drawing of man made and natural objects. This one is inspired by Vincent Van Gogh as he uses lot of line and small dots to create tone, which is what I tried to re-create in my work.
Observational drawing
Paint. 18.3x17.3 cm. Using a primary source I painted a pomegranate to experiment with mixing colours together to create different shades and using lighter or darker colours to show tone.
Pencil. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This is an observational drawing of some plants. I used different mark making in this piece by shading in the negative space to create an outline of a flower.
Observational drawing
Pen. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This is another observational drawing of a flower. I coloured the flower in to create a silhouette of the flower as I was exploring different ways to draw an object.
Observational drawing
Pencil. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This is a simple line drawing of some plants and flowers. I didn't use any shading or tone to keep it minimal and uncomplicated.
Observational drawing
Pencil. 148 x 21 cm. This is another sketch of some flowers taken from some primary images that I collected. I kept the lines thin and light as it was an idea for a collagraph plate.
Collage
Coloured card .21.5x7.5 cm. I cut out silhouettes of objects with different coloured card and paper to create a collage. I also used small pieces of masking tape to stick the card down which gives the composition a different effect almost like its been stitched.
Sketches relating to the theme of Reflect/Distort
Pencil. 21.0 × 29.7 cm. This was a sketch that I did in response to the Reflect/Distort project. As a part of the research I looked into objects being warped and distorted in the reflection of office block windows.
Reflect/Distort project
Paint, drawings and photo's. 18 x 20 cm. In this piece I explored working with a wide range of different media to develop my skills and to see if different media all in the same piece would work well together.
Observational drawing
Charcoal. 29.7 x 42 cm. This is a drawing of a wide range of objects. I used one type of media throughout the drawing and used shading to show where the light hits the objects.
Experimenting with mixing colours
Acrylic Paint. 29.7 x 42 cm. This was created by using a piece of card to scrape the paint onto the paper. I experimented with mixing different colours together and using lighter shades to make the objects in the piece look more 3D.
Final piece for the Hotel project
Water colour and acrylic. 29.7 x 42 cm. This was my final piece for the Hotel project, where we had to create an abstract, mixed media piece, it must be inspired by man-made or natural structures and surfaces which would be suitable to display anywhere in a hotel, it also had to match the colour scheme and be no bigger than A1 and no smaller than A3.
Final piece for Reflect/Distort project
Mixed media. 29.7 x 42 cm. This was my final piece for the Reflect/Distort project. I experimented with mixing different media together at the start and chose to use a picture of a family member as it reflects something about me. I wasn't too keen on the squares as I thought it looked too busy so I decided to use stripes instead and I think it turned out well.
